Arrest made in Lincoln grass fire

The Lincoln Police Department confirmed an arrest was made in relation to a May 24 grass fire near E 8th Street and S Herold Avenue. Around 11:47 a.m., first responders, which included officers and the Lincoln Fire Department, encountered rapidly spreading flames due to substantial winds, prompting the precautionary evacuation of nearby residents. An on-scene investigation by the fire department personnel and LPD patrol officers determined that the fire was likely caused by illegal fireworks being set off in the area. Continued efforts by LPD patrol officers led to the identification of a person of interest, who was later arrested. Ilidio Garcia, 21, of Lincoln, was booked into the Placer County Jail on suspicion of arson, possession of a destructive device and possession of fireworks without a permit. According to the online in-custody report, Garcia was released Monday. "Illegal fireworks can result in injury, fires, and criminal charges. Please celebrate responsibly and report any illegal fireworks activity to authorities," the police department stated.
