2 fatal accidents occur on Folsom streets this week

Folsom Police are investigating two unrelated tragic, fatal accidents that happened on city streets this week. The more recent accident happened early Wednesday, May 28. Folsom Police Commander Andrew Bates provided the Folsom Telegraph details of what happened: "At 12:41 a.m. (Wednesday), we received reports of a two-vehicle collision in the intersection of E. Natoma Street and Golf Links Drive in Folsom. Each vehicle had one occupant. One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the collision is under investigation," said Commander Bates. Bates explained that when there is a fatality, Folsom PD's Major Accident Response Team (MART) gathers and analyzes all evidence before determining and releasing facts about the accident, such as cause. Adam Hazell is a Folsom resident who lives about 100 yards from the intersection where the accident happened; he told The Folsom Telegraph he heard the crash while he was getting ready for bed. "I got dressed and went to see what I could do," said Hazell. "There was no one around. ... When I arrived, the surviving driver was out and on the phone with 911." It wasn't long before first responders arrived, but they were not able to save the injured victim. Folsom Police say lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the driver was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. It has not been reported whether the other driver involved was injured, but they remained on scene. The roadway was closed for a period of time but reopened by the early morning hours. No arrests were made and no other details are being released at this time. Folsom Police also reported a second fatal crash on Tuesday, May 27, just before 4 p.m. Officers responded to a solo-vehicle crash into a tree; the driver and passenger were found unconscious and not breathing. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of this accident is also under investigation by the MART team.
