Family fun in Historic Folsom: A perfect day trip

Historic Folsom offers families a wonderful day of history, fun, and adventure. The best part is that parking is free in the parking structure. Start your visit at the Folsom History Museum on 823 Sutter Street. This museum tells the story of Native Americans and the gold rush that made Folsom famous. It's open Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $4 for students. Kids 5 and under get in free. Families with EBT cards also get free admission (museums4all.org). Walk around Sutter Street to explore local shops and stop at Snooks for ice cream. Then visit The Square at 196 Wool Street where kids can try gold panning and watch a working blacksmith. It's free to visit but they suggest a $5 donation. Open weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before heading home, grab a meal at one of the many restaurants. There are plenty of options for everyone, so the whole family will find something they like. Historic Folsom also offers the Twilight Summer Concert Series, Sutter Street Theatre with family shows, The Smart Axe, Practical Cycle Bike Rentals, farmers markets, and the Historic Folsom Ice Rink which opens November 7, 2025.
