Adult grads are front-page news

Kudos to the Auburn Journal for putting the Placer School for Adults graduates on the front page! It was a wonderful way to showcase their accomplishments and highlight this great resource in our community. Many people in our area may not be aware of the valuable services the Placer School for Adults provides. Featuring the graduates so prominently not only celebrates their hard work but also shines a spotlight on a local gem that empowers so many to achieve their educational and professional goals. Thank you for recognizing the importance of this institution and helping to spread the word about its invaluable contributions to Auburn and the surrounding communites. Jennifer Reitz Auburn Kiley needs to shift his focus Dear Editor, When I clicked on Congressman Kevin Kiley's Representative Report newsletter this afternoon, my expectations were zero that he had written to us about saving Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security by voting NO on the so-called Big Beautiful Bill. Sure enough, Kiley not only ignored the needs of tens of thousands of his constituents, he focused on a population that is not only tiny in numbers but also an easy target. The email's lead story was about how outraged he is that trans females are competing in girls' sports. Transgender people make up 1-2 percent of the US population. Next, Kiley demands that protesters in Los Angeles be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Where was Kiley's outrage when his fellow congresspeople were being attacked on Jan. 6 – $30 million in property damage and five people dead. Yet Kiley and his fellow Republicans dismiss that day of infamy along with Trump's pardoning the violent J6 insurrectionists who were found guilty of multiple felonies – theft, property crimes, seditious conspiracy, assault of federal officers. Kiley and his GOP comrades are the spokesmodels for how to wear two faces at the same time. No matter the scale of the criminality, their side of the aisle can do no wrong. Shelley FrostLake of the Pines RFK Jr. needs to be moved, and Kiley needs to act Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has dismissed all 17 members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices — the expert panel responsible for determining vaccine eligibility and guiding insurance coverage decisions. Thanks to their past recommendations, I was able to receive updated flu, measles, COVID and shingles vaccines at no cost. That may no longer be the case. Preventing disease is less costly than treating it. This sweeping decision threatens the health of our community. Without trusted, science-based guidance, we risk a rise in preventable illnesses — especially among our children and elderly. RFK Jr.'s actions undermine public health and safety. He should be removed from his position at HHS immediately. Meanwhile, my representative, Congressman Kevin Kiley, has remained silent. His inaction speaks volumes. If your child misses a vaccine or you're forced to pay out of pocket, he won't object — as long as tax breaks for billionaires remain untouched. Let's remind him who he was elected to serve.
