Placer County approves $3.7 million gun range clean up

The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved plans for lead remediation of the former Lincoln Gun Range. The county acquired the Lincoln property on Oak Tree Lane in the 1968, and it served as a training ground for law enforcement as a gun and skeet range until 1999. The gun range still has firing lines and an earthen berm at the site. The site has spent bullets present, as well as lead in the soil. The action by the Board of Supervisors authorized cleanup of the site to residential standards. The Placer County Facilities Management will put the project out to bid to contractors for up to $3.7 million and award a contract due to the passing of motion. The soil remediation work will include excavation of soils, screening and collection of lead shot for recycling and soil treatments, and soil removal as needed. The project is expected to begin in late summer, with completion in the fall. District 2 Supervisor Shanti Landon shared it is important for Lincoln's future generations to clean the site. "I want to thank our Facilities Management team for their proactive approach to cleanup of the former gun ranges," said Landon. "It's very important for the Lincoln community that this remediation project move forward to ensure this site is safe for future generations."
