Explore Local History on the Heritage Trail This Saturday

The Heritage Trail continues this Saturday, June 14th, offering a unique opportunity to step back in time and discover the rich history of the region. Three local museums— the Lincoln Area Archives Museum, the Fruitvale Schoolhouse Museum, and the Wheatland History Museum— will open their doors for free, allowing visitors to explore captivating exhibits and hands-on experiences. At the Lincoln Area Archives Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., a special new exhibit commemorates the 100th anniversary of the McBean Park Pool, a beloved landmark for generations. Visitors can also enjoy exhibits showcasing a turn-of-the-century kitchen, blacksmithing tools, and military history, providing a glimpse into life in the late 19th and early 20thcenturies. Over at the Wheatland History Museum from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m., history buffs can explore the story of Wheatland and its surrounding areas, including Johnson's Ranch. This historic site was an important stop along the Emigrant Trail during the Gold Rush era, offering a fascinating look at the region's role in westward expansion. The Fruitvale Schoolhouse Museum from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. will transport visitors to 1889 with its restored one-room schoolhouse, complete with original slate blackboards and vintage school desks. Young visitors can participate in engaging Living History activities, allowing them to experience what it was like to attend school over a century ago. As part of the Heritage Trail, these museums are free to visit, but there's even more to enjoy. Visitors can have their "Get-up-and-Go" cards stamped for a chance to win one of three gift baskets. Students can also participate in scavenger hunts for a chance to win one of two tablets or one of three backpacks filled with school supplies.
