Oak Ridge track athletes run well at Golden West

Oak Ridge had some track and field athletes compete at the Golden West Invitational at Cordova High School on June 6 -7. Many athletes scored personal-best times/distances at the great local, postseason meet featuring strong competition. The top-three finishers in each event received a medal. Maya Day took a first-place medal in the 1,600 meters with a personal-best time of 5:14.84 to lead the way. Giuliana Martino earned a second-place in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:40.58, while also placing fifth in the mile run (5:23.99), a personal-best time, and also placed 12th in the 800 meters in 2:38.8. Demarco Patterson took third in the 100 meters in 10.93, a personal-record and third fastest time at Oak Ridge. Teammate Cole Esten also placed fifth in the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 10.97, and Chase Fontana secured eighth place with a personal-best time of 11.15. Suhnny Bernardi also ran the 100 meters and placed 22nd with a time of 11.35. Bernardi also placed 10th in the 200 meters in 23.26. Ben Gutierrez also had a top-10 finish for the Trojans, as he ran ninth in the 800 meters in 200.95, while also taking 16th in the 400 meters (53.08). That time is the top time for an Oak Ridge freshman. Gutierrez also placed 33rd in the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:45.22. Elise Sale placed eighth in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:32.69, while Adriana Ingargiola ran eighth in the 5,000 meters in 19:19.20. Roman Zamora took 11th in the mile in 4:27.17, also a personal-best time. Oscar Carrillo also ran a best time of 4:30.52 to place 16th in the mile. Finally, Braden Laxamana ran 23rd in the 800 meters in 2:10.92 and ran 36th in the mile in 4:56.11. Both were personal-best times. The varsity boys' 4x100 relay team (Suhnny Bernardi, Chase Fontana, Demarco Patterson, Cole Esten) and some distance runners will be competing at the Nike Outdoor Nationals (June 19-22) at the University of Oregon.
