Author, former park ranger to speak to Canyon Keepers

The Auburn State Recreation Area Canyon Keepers will feature an exciting and engaging talk by local writer Rosanne S. McHenry, author of "Tales From a Rogue Ranger" and "Trip Tales: From Family Camping to Life as a Ranger," at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the at the Canyon View Community Center, 471 Maidu Road in Auburn. Tales From a Rogue Ranger, McHenry's newest book, is set against the stunning backdrop of California's American River Canyon. This is an engaging and wildly unusual read about the untamed life of a woman ranger. From a miner riding a mule to an attack goose on the loose, these tales show the kaleidoscope of crazy characters a park ranger encounters, giving the reader a fascinating look into a true ranger experience. McHenry is an entertaining and award-winning author with an international following. Signed copies of both books will be available by cash or check. There will also be a free prize drawing. Genealogical Society meets The Placer County Genealogical Society is holding its general meeting Thursday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at the LDS Church, 1255 Bell Road in Auburn. Speaker Debra Dudek will talk about "Unusual Places to Find Births and Naturalizations – Irish Edition." Do you have Irish ancestors? Learn about resources such as military rosters, emigrant records and much more – digital and physical resources – where you can find those sometimes-elusive Irish ancestors. CHP officer to speak Michael Fong, a retired CHP officer and security specialist, will be the featured speakers at the next meeting of Auburn Gold Country Rotary on Thursday, June 26, at Awful Annie's, located at 13460 Lincoln Way. Musick, a retired teacher, lived and taught in Saudi Arabia for five years. She has agreed to share her observations of living in the majority-Muslim Middle East. Coffee Talk is an informal forum of smart, open-minded individuals who have no particular political agenda but rather who have a shared interest in the communities of Auburn, Grass Valley, Nevada City and surrounding communities.
