Loomis looks to locals again for parking lot help

To avoid rising construction costs, Loomis is looking for local help again to build a parking lot downtown. The South Placer Fire District Board agreed to lease the vacant parcel at 3664 Magnolia Street to the Town for $1 a year for five years to create another overflow parking area. The vacant lot is behind the Horseshoe Bar Road firehouse, a block from the Taylor Road main street and Town Hall. The lease automatically renews each year until either party terminates the agreement. The Town Council approved the lease last week. The Town is currently looking for volunteers to help with the project, similar to the community support received for the WW Moulding parking area on Taylor Road. The plan calls for creating an all-weather parking lot similar to the Taylor parking lot finished in April. The new lot at the former mill at the tracks is made of rock material that works well in all weather conditions, from rain to snow to fluctuating temperatures, staff said. Loomis Town officials are working on determining the improvement costs for the Magnolia location. The goal is to collaborate with volunteers to minimize financial impact by lowering the cost below $30,000. Loomis saved nearly $65,000 on the Moulding project, officials said. The Town will install wayfinding signs as needed to help travelers locate the Magnolia overflow parking lot.
