Oak Ridge track and field athletes shine

Oak Ridge had two throwers, Alex Castro and Jakeb Jennings, compete very well at the Region 14 USATF Junior Olympics Championships, June 20-22, at Fresno Pacific University. Castro competed with the 17-year-olds in the shot put and placed third with a throw of 44 feet, 5.5 inches and also competed in the discus and placed fourth with a distance of 132-5. Jennings competed with the 16-year-olds. He placed second in the shot put (39-1.25), finished fourth in the discus (101-4), and was fourth in the hammer throw (79-5). Both Castro and Jennings qualified to compete at the USATF Junior Olympics Championships in Savannah, Georgia on July 21-25. Oak Ridge also had 10 track athletes compete at the Nike Outdoor Nationals (June 19-22) at Hayward Field - University of Oregon in Eugene. Three relay teams (boys' 4x 100 meter relay team, girls' 4x 800 meter relay team, girls' 4x 1 mile relay team) competed well at this meet. Suhnny Bernardi, Ben Gutierrez, Adriana Ingargiola, Giuliana Martino, and Lauren Tiedeman competed well in individual events. The following are the results for the Oak Ridge athletes at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Suhnny Bernardi - 100 meters Freshman Boys' Race - 18th in 11.49. Ben Gutierrez - 1 Mile Freshman Boys' Race - 43rd in 4:33.16 (PR). Giuliana Martino - 1 Mile Freshman Girls' Race - 12th in 5:16.57 (PR). Lauren Tiedeman - 1 Mile Freshman Girls' Race - 18th in 5:19.49 (PR). Adriana Ingargiola - Girls' Emerging Elite 3000 Meters - 31st in 10:32.28 (PR). Boys' Championship 4x 100 Meter Relay - (Suhnny Bernardi, Chase Fontana, Demarco Patterson, Cole Esten) - 12th in 42.91. Girls' Emerging Elite 4x 800 Relay (Giuliana Martino, Megan Tiedeman, Elise Sale, Lauren Tiedeman) - 12th in 9:59.53. Girls' Championship 4x 1 Mile Relay (Giuliana Martino, Lauren Tiedeman, Elise Sale, Adriana Ingargiola) - 14th 22:07.96. Giuliana Martino and Lauren Tiedeman raced very well in three events (1 Mile, 4x 800 Relay, 4x 1 Mile Relay) in three consecutive days.
