Eighteen weightlifters compete at nationals

A group of 18 athletes from Folsom traveled to Colorado Springs for the USAW National Championships earlier this month. The group as a whole faired quite well, as Liam Doherty earned the top-lifter award. Doherty, who competed in the under-11 age group, 88-pound division, is only 8 years old and weighs 68 pounds and though he did not win his weight class, because he lifted more weight in comparison to his age/weight to other lifters, earned him the top lifter award. Folsom had other athletes fair quite well in the competing. Dante Banning placed first place in snatch, clean and jerk and overall in his U11 weight class, as did Hadleigh Lane, who not only placed first across the board in her U11 weight class but also placed third in the clean and jerk and third overall in the U13 age group. In the U15 age group, Griffin Heglie earned three second-place finishes in snatch, clean and jerk and overall. Ashton Ketchum and Luke Doherty both earned second-place finishes in the snatch, took third in clean and jerk and placed second overall in the U11 weight class. Jordan Angel, competing in U15, earned a third-place in clean and jerk and third place overall. In U13, England Lewis took second in clean and jerk and was third in snatch and placed third overall. Ben Brynes, competing in U11, placed second in clean and jerk and was third overall in his weight class.
