Original Crabbe court coming out

Placer High School's iconic Earl Crabbe Gym will look a little different next season, as it is set to get a new hardwood surface this summer. Demolition crews began the process of tearing out the original floor from 1936 on Wednesday. The project is expected to be completed in early August in time for the new school year. The project was approved at the Placer Union High School District board meeting on April 8, when it was determined the current floor has deteriorated to the point that it was hazardous for athletes to use. It was determined the project would take place over summer to not disrupt school activities and began this week to comply with the Sac-Joaquin Section's dead period in which no athletic contact is allowed between coaches and players of all sports. The school announced Wednesday evening it will be selling commemorative squares of the floor in conjunction with the Placer Athletic Hall of Fame at the project's completion to help raise funds for the school's athletic program.
