Placer County leaders condemn threats as debate over respite center intensifies

District 2 Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon shared a Facebook statement about harassments her family has received and division in the Lincoln community over the medical respite center from The Gathering Inn. Landon shared her husband had attended a court hearing for The Gathering Inn vs. City of Lincoln and Western Placer Unified School District case. The status alleges that residents against the TGI project said profanities at him and statements like "shame on you" and "Chris, this is all your fault. I hope Shanti rots in hell." Landon has responded to critical comments from residents opposed to The Gathering Inn coming to Lincoln due her role in withholding information about the respite center from the Lincoln community leaders. Landon shared in her Facebook post that the harassment is unacceptable. "The approach has not only hurt their cause, but has completely alienated members of the community. What I keep hearing is 'Oh, I'm NOT part of those anti-TGI red shirts,' because this is the type of behavior that has become associated with them," the post said. TGI put out a Facebook statement on June 20 stating it would like to see dialogue over division and for city officials to denounce threats of violence and hostility towards the nonprofit. TGI told the Lincoln News Messenger the aggression comes from protestors at the courthouse in "LINCOLN STRONG STOP TGI" red shirts who shouted similar statements at Landon's husband. They also stated the hostility comes from a private Facebook group titled "Lincoln against TGI." Lincoln Mayor Holly Andretta, who is running against Landon for Placer County District 2 in 2026, put out a statement on Facebook stating that personal attacks or inappropriate language at anyone's family members have no place in the community. "I do not condone that behavior in any form, and I will always stand up for the right of every elected official's family to be left out of the debate, no matter how strongly the community may feel about the issues at hand," the statement said. She shared in her Facebook statement the comment appears to be hearsay or incomplete accounts to distract community members from The Gathering Inn's proposal. "I also think it is important to acknowledge that what has been shared appears to be a secondhand report of what someone may have said," Andretta's post said. "While no one should be subject to hateful remarks, we also should not allow hearsay or incomplete accounts to distract us or overshadow legitimate concerns about the Gathering Inn proposal." Andretta said there are reasonable, fact-based questions about how this project was handled, and those concerns deserve to be heard and addressed. "We cannot let a single inappropriate comment, whether confirmed or not, be used to discredit or minimize an entire community's voice," the post said. "Placer County is stronger than this. We can have hard conversations in a civil, fact-based way, and keep the focus on truth and transparency. That is the respectful debate our community deserves." The next event in the lawsuit is a case management conference on July 28 at 2 p.m. in Department 40 at the Placer County Superior Court of Roseville.
