Enjoy free swim days through Aug. 6 in Meadow Vista

Editor's note: This story was corrected to show free swim days last through Aug. 6. The Meadow Vista Friendly Neighbors Club's annual Easter See's Candies Sale was a great success. This is an important fundraiser for us and we are very grateful to our wonderful community for its support. Thanks to each of you for stopping by to say "Hello" and buying some delicious See's candy or making a cash donation (which many of you did) – the generosity of this amazing community is unmatched! We are also grateful to Holiday Market and its manager, Joel, for allowing us to "set up shop" in front of the market and for being so supportive of our efforts throughout the year. We are thrilled to be able to offer free swim days at the Meadow Vista Community Pool again this summer. These member-sponsored free swim days (every Wednesday through Aug. 6) are open to everyone so please come and enjoy the pool – it's our treat. We are also excited to continue our support of the school libraries at Sierra Hills and Weimar Hills. It was fun to volunteer at the spring book fairs and watch the children select books to read over the summer. We are committed to encouraging the literacy of our youngsters and are delighted to help our school librarians keep reading programs in full swing 365 days a year. Our Spring Break program of providing healthy, nutritious food to families with school-age children was very well received. We hope to continue this program next year. Friendly Neighbors proudly presented scholarships to two worthy Colfax High School students who will be continuing their education and career advancement after graduation. Both recipients were excited and grateful for the help these scholarships will provide. Friendly Neighbors had fun participating in Pioneer Day again this year. We manned a booth in the park and enjoyed meeting the wonderful members of our community. A big THANKS to Melanie Manter for chairing this event. We are now gearing up for our most important project of the year – the Christmas basket food and toy program. With the help of our community, we are honored to provide healthy, nutritious food for those in our community who need a helping hand and toys for their children. We will have more news about this event in our next article – stay tuned. Meadow Vista Friendly Neighbors meet at the Meadow Vista Community Center (a new location for us) on the fourth Wednesday of each month (with a few exceptions) for a brown-bag lunch at 11:30 a.m. and meeting at noon. Community members interested in learning more about the worthy work we do are invited and encouraged to attend and join us as we serve our wonderful community.
