Genealogical society welcomes DNA expert

The Placer County Genealogical Society is holding its general meeting Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. at the LDS Church, 1255 Bell Road in Auburn. Please enter from the back of the main building. The speaker is Kate Penney Howard, a DNA expert who will talk about "Squeezing All the Facts Out of Your DNA Matches." Have you taken a DNA test? What do you do with all of those matches? This class will give users of every skill level more tools to get the most out of them and also crack that difficult case. Everyone is welcome to attend in person or by Zoom. Refreshments provided. Kiwanis Community Day The Gold Country Kiwanis Club invites the entire community to come together for a morning of fun, fitness and giving at the annual Kiwanis Community Day Fundraiser, happening Saturday, July 19, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pioneer Park Bandshell in Nevada City. The free event is dedicated to raising funds to provide new school clothes and supplies for children in need throughout the community. Everyone is encouraged to join in for a festive morning featuring free food and beverages for all to enjoy. Highlights include Tai Chi and Qigong demonstrations for health and wellness, energetic performances by the renowned Grass Valley Taiko Drummers and a silent auction and raffle packed with generous donations from local merchants. Local Qigong Master Homer Nottingham will serve as master of ceremonies. Come celebrate, contribute and connect while supporting local kids as they prepare for a successful new school year.
