Placer SPCA has urgent need for help with surge of kittens

It's raining kittens at the Placer SPCA, and while that may sound adorable, it's an urgent situation as the organization's resources are being stretched thin. Now, the shelter is asking the community for help. Officials from the Placer SPCA said their intake numbers of kittens are surging and have reached an all-time high; the organization is also preparing to care for a growing number of vulnerable kittens in need of lifesaving support. The Placer SPCA has already received 511 kittens this year, a major increase compared to the same time last year. To meet this growing need, Placer SPCA is urgently seeking foster volunteers to support the 190 kittens currently in its care. As of this week, 107 kittens are in foster homes, while 55 are still waiting for placement. The Placer SPCA said foster volunteers play a crucial role in saving the lives of kittens. Foster commitments last at least two weeks. Placer SPCA provides all necessary supplies and guidance to ensure fosters are set up for success. As an added incentive, fosters will have a pick of the litter if they choose to adopt a kitten in their care and the adoption fee will be waived. Also, if a foster refers a friend or family member to adopt a kitten, the referral will receive 50 percent off the adoption fee. Every item donated helps shelter staff in providing these kittens with nutrition and care they need. The Placer SPCA said it is also in need of monetary donations to provide medical care, food and safe shelter for the hundreds of kittens coming into the shelter.
