New faces make noise at Fast Fridays in Auburn

It was another fine night of racing in week 10 of the Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway season. Several riders graced Auburn's tricky dirt oval for the first time this season and made the lineup interesting. Justin Almon of Southern California had a great night, winning the handicap main event and finishing second in the scratch main. Almon also got in on the fun in the fourth round of the Team Challenge by scoring a win and three points for Team IFC. Also, if you have been around speedway racing for a while, you remember Bryan Yarrow, who also made his first appearance of 2025 at Fast Fridays. Yarrow helped Team Law Tigers in the Team Challenge and won the scratch consolation race. Sammy Tetrault pulled on his leathers and did well in his first night of the season. Brandon Indrieri did well in the support class on his first night at Fast Fridays. The season-long Team Challenge Series has been tight all season, and another 9-9 deadlock in round four left Team Law Tigers leading Team IFC 37-35. In the first heat right out of the gate, Billy Janniro and Daniel Faria came out strong for Team Law Tigers, Janniro scoring a win and three points and Faria placing second for two points. Team IFC's Anthony Dion finished third. The second heat evened up things a little with a first-place finish by Team IFC's Justin Almon for three points. Law Tigers scored three points with a second-place finish by Timmy Dion and third-place finish by Bryan Yarrow. In the third heat, Tisiah Prout came out of the gate on fire, followed by IFC teammate Hunter Castillo, and they finished 1-2 for five points. Tetrault added one point for his third-place finish for Team Law Tigers and the score settled at Law Tigers 37, IFC 35. Round five is July 25. Broc Nicol picked up his fifth scratch main event win of the season. The current AMA National Speedway Champion scored wins in his heat race and semifinal to be the "Fastest man of the night" for the fifth time this season. Coming out of lane 4 in the main event, Nicol took the outside line higher on the track and powered to the front by the first lap. Giving a serious challenge were Wilbur Hancock, Faria and Janniro. Nicol, riding flawlessly, increased his lead with each lap and won by a wide margin. Hancock placed second, Faria was third and Janniro was fourth. Almon scored big in the handicap program. In his first race of the season at Fast Fridays, Almon was getting his bearings and finished fourth in his first heat race. Almon then won his semifinal. Handicapped on the 10-yard line in the main event, Almon made a good gate and led the entire race. Almon was not without serious challenges from Yarrow, who was following close in second, and Janniro right behind Yarrow. Almon held on for the win with Yarrow second and Janniro third. Hunter Castillo won the Support Class main event, his second of the season. Castillo, a consistent top-three finisher in his division, led most of the race but drama was building behind him between Antonio Coffman and Catherine Moore. Coffman was second for most of the race, but creeping up was the pesky Moore, and just before the finish line, she made her move and passed Castillo by inches to place second. Coffman was third. Jameson Hutchinson topped the Youth 250cc D1 division program with a win in the main event. Hutchinson was perfect, winning all his races. Hutchinson was up against the Rearick brothers, Wesley and Riley. Wesley Rearick finished second in the main and Riley Rearick third. It was Hutchinson's fifth Youth 250cc D1 victory of the season. Caden Cavrikas won the Youth 250cc D2 main event. Cavrikas also was perfect in his races. He led Gracie Janniro the entire race, though she followed close behind. Baylee Evans Seeley was third. In the Youth 150cc divisions, Mason Howell won the D1 main event, his first since moving up from D2. Zander Schroeder was second and Logan Kerr was third. Gavin Evans-Seeley won the D2 feature, also his first in the division. Leeann Emerson was second and Hank Hanaway was third. Zeva Schroeder won the D3 main event, followed by William Bruce. The win was her third of the season. Points leaders through July 4 include Billy Janniro in Division 1 with 1,202 points, followed by Russell Green with 1,085 and Nicol with 1,073. Moore leads the support division with 476 points, followed by Coffman with 444 and Cody Aker with 415. Other points can be found at www.fastfridays.com. One of the longest speedway racing contests continues this Friday, July 18. The North vs. South race has been highly anticipated since 1991. A team from Southern California faces a team of Northern California homeboys. It's a long-running grudge match with a year of bragging rights on the line. The North leads the South 22-12.
