Auburn Winds, Nevada Co. Concert Band collaborate

Auburn Winds musicians join the Nevada County Concert Band (NCCB) for the annual Band Musician Invitational Concert hosted by NCCB this Sunday, July 27, at 5 p.m. at the Pioneer Park Band shell in Nevada City. There are 16 musicians who are in both Auburn Winds and NCCB. Under the direction of Cheryl Woldseth, the 60-member Nevada County Concert Band will be celebrating the 175th year of California's statehood. Sunday's special one-day outdoor event draws 50 guest musicians from all over Northern California; several even come from out of state, as far away as New Mexico. The musicians rehearse together in the morning and perform their concert for the public at 5 p.m. The Pioneer Park band shell in Nevada City is nestled among the pine trees of the Sierra Nevada mountain foothills. Few performers are lucky enough to play in such a beautiful place. Enjoy an evening of toe-tapping marches, iconic movie themes, pop classics and dazzling soloists, including "California, Here I Come!," the "Golden Gate March," "Big Fun in the Sun" (a Beach Boys medley), Santana and more. Ice cream and hot dog vendors serve food and drinks during the concerts. The park also has a children's play area, baseball diamonds, swimming pool, creek, hiking trails, tennis courts and more. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair; also, you may be in the sun for a short while). There is no admission charge. The band is supported entirely by donations from the audience.
