Sun City Lincoln Hills Garden Group pleased to give scholarships

Brielle Soto is a sophomore at Sierra College and a 2024 graduate of Lincoln High School. At the Rocklin campus, she is currently enrolled in a summer school class on Sustainable Agriculture, where she's learning about regenerative farming concepts as well as American agriculture and the pros and cons of greener agricultural practices. In her spare time, Brielle likes to dig in the dirt, where she's having "lots of luck with sunflowers, beans and cherry tomatoes." Kyra Meigs, a June graduate of Twelve Bridges High School, will attend UC Davis in the fall, majoring in Plant Biology. While in high school, Kyra maintained a 4.3 GPA and received special recognition in the Social Sciences and Photography departments. Her off-campus activities include hula dancing and violin lessons. Kyra's dream after college is to work at a botanical garden or a lab specializing in the science of plant biology. "There is so much to love about plants," she said. "We are so happy to award these two outstanding young women scholarships to aid them in continuing their educational journey," said Aggie Marsh, civic projects chairman. Others on the committee are Natalie Zeek, Penny Grmoyles and Marian Reeder. Lorraine Immel, Garden Group publicist, is always involved. Here is what she said about her involvement: "If you enjoy the crepe myrtle trees on Lincoln Boulevard and the Lincoln Public Library inside and outside plants, many of those were donated by the Garden Group, who gets funded by having monthly sales at meetings and a large plant sale in spring. "We have made donations of time, labor and money to the Boy Scouts Landscape project, Lincoln High School Farm, Community Gardens, Salt Mine, Lincoln Foundation, 100-year Fruitvale School, Thanksgiving Turkey gifting and many other civic projects."
