EDH All-Stars win Nor-Cal State championship

El Dorado Hills' 10-11-year-old Little League All-Stars utilized a familiar combination to beat Alameda Friday to win the state championship: George Bergamo on the mound and outstanding production from the bottom of the batting order. Bergamo, the team's ace pitcher, blanked Alameda and held them to six hits and two walks while striking out only three. But while Bergamo didn't post the best numbers, what he did do very well was work out of trouble. In the third and fourth innings Bergamo loaded the bases, and worked out of it without allowing a run. "This team's determination was tested after a stunning loss to Alameda yesterday," El Dorado Hills Manager Jason Reichard said. "But these boys rallied back behind our ace, George. Logan hit a double in the bottom of the first inning and we never looked back. Bodhi Washburn and Aayden Whitworth broke it open with a pair of doubles. "The boys responded to the loss with a grit and determination. It was something fun to watch. These boys did not like losing. The boys rally around George on the mound and everyone puts together their best game." El Dorado Hills had 10 hits in the game and that last five batters in their batting order combined to have six hits, four RBIS and four runs scored. Colton Cagle scored two runs and had a hit; Wilson Center had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run, Bodhi Washburn had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run, while Aayden Whitworth had a hit and picked up one RBI. El Dorado Hills scored two runs in the first inning. Logan Reichard led off the game with a double and scored on Jacob Trier's double. Later in the inning, another run came in on the shortstop's error on a ball hit by Brady Gill, who seemingly always comes through when the team needs him. El Dorado Hills added a run in the second inning when Colton Cagle doubled and scored on Center Wilson's single. Three runs in the fourth inning brought an end to the scoring in El Dorado Hills' 6-0 shutout. Washburn doubled in two runs and Whitworth knocked in another, as the last two batters came up with some big insurance runs for the team. "I felt that we were playing with house money since the district tournament," Reichard said. "To win the NorCal State Championship is amazing I couldn't be prouder of these boys. "We played a well respected and good Alameda team today. That team is talented and very well coached. "Our overall record for this summer is 12 wins and one loss. We've been on the field almost every day for two months. This outcome is amazing."
