My 6 loyal readers are a 'joke'

You six loyal readers know I am nothing if not always looking for ways to improve myself, and by extension, these 400-700 words of drivel. To that end, I asked ChatGPT, "What can you tell me about Tom Frady, who writes 'Life in the Bike Lane' for Gold Country Media?" I was described as a "passionate cyclist and longtime columnist," reflecting on cycling, community, gear, etiquette ..." I think the "reflecting" part comes from the sunshine bouncing off my hair-challenged head, but I liked the rest. It was also noted I am syndicated in a large number of major newspapers around the country. That's not exactly how it was worded, but that's what I took away from it. It's interesting what AI decides as important. I was referred to as a "thoughtful driver" and it picked out Pleasant Grove Road and "cycling through Europe" as important phrases to describe me and what this column is about. I have been a placeholder in this paper for nearly 12 years. There are about 225,000 words from which to choose. "Cycling through Europe"!? I do come off sounding better than I am. Phrases like "well-rounded perspective," "blend(ing) personal anecdotes with practical insights" and (my favorite) "elevating raw stats into relatable stories." I first read that as "blending raw steaks" and wondered how ChapGPT knew I pureed meat, but eventually realized what was being said. After the huge success of the first query, I tried, "Who are my six loyal readers?" hoping to get some names and addresses so I could send gift baskets. ChatGPT referred to the six of you as a "running joke." Wouldn't "cycling joke" have been a better description? Am I missing something? Anyway, I do appreciate SOMEBODY reads this and loves the fact something I have written evokes a comment that does not fall into snark-infested waters and harsh my vibe. I even get pleasure out of the rare letter, e-mail or phone message sent to me. (Well, the voicemail left for me was a little rough. I'm glad my wife didn't hear it.) But ChatGPT did get one thing right. At the very end, under the heading "Why It Matters," Mr. Chat wrote, "If you're a cyclist (or considering taking it up), Tom's column is a friendly and informative guide through the seasonal joys of quirks of biking in Placer County and beyond." Yeah, that kinda sums it up. I want to encourage you to get out on your bike, any bike, and ride, anywhere. And put yourself into an AI site. It's better than Googling.
