More excited for football season to start

Jacoby More completed 63 percent of his passes as Vista del Lago's quarterback on the freshman football team a season ago. In leading the team to a perfect 10-0 record, More threw for 1,551 yards and 20 touchdowns against only three interceptions. More also rushed for 192 yards and six touchdowns. This season, More is slated to make the jump to Vista's varsity team, since Grant Rogers, last year's varsity quarterback, graduated. Vista de Lago junior Christian Chavez, who quarterbacked the junior varsity team in five games a season ago, threw for 1,351 yards and 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions, completing 66 percent of his passes. As of now, he will start the season as More's backup. "It's a good opportunity for me and it will help me learn," More said about earning the starting job. "Varsity is so much more faster than playing at the freshman level." When asked what More brings to the varsity team in terms of skill, he said he can do it all. "I can do anything," More said. "I'm a playmaker. I can extend plays in the pocket with my feet or I can run if the pocket breaks down. My main goal is to get the ball to other players and let them do their thing." One thing More likes about the offense is all the weapons he has. He's excited to hand the ball off to Jack Cromwell and throw the ball to Kyle Cromwell, among others. "I'm excited to get them the ball," More said. "Kyle runs good routes and is always open. His ability to catch 50-50 balls is something you don't see every day. Jack is an amazing running back. He's fast and I feel very confident giving him the ball." As for the guys up front, the offensive line, More said, "of course I love them because they protect me." Vista's offense is ready to take flight. "I like the offense," More said. "It will be a fun year. I think we'll put up a lot of points. The key to our success will just be steadily moving the ball. Not get ahead of ourselves; not try to do too much, just taking what the defensive is giving us." If More struggles, Vista coach Mike Struebing is also excited to have a quarterback like Chavez to turn to. "Both guys are sensational," Struebing said. "I feel Jacoby has a better feel for the offense; the ball comes out a little faster right now, but that could change. Christian is fantastic upstairs. He processes information. I can tell him one thing and he can adjust to it right away. He's very good. "If you look at them, you'd probably say Jacoby is a better scrambler, but Christian is so tall that one step for him is like four yards so he takes two steps and it's almost a first down. Christian also hasn't been afraid to pull it in practice when the read has calls for it. No matter who is behind center for the Eagles this season, Struebing is confident either player can get the job done.
