Kiwanis Clubs donate 12,000+ diapers to Keaton's Child Cancer Alliance

Fourteen Kiwanis Clubs from Placer, El Dorado and Sacramento counties, part of Kiwanis Division 44, banded together to collect more than 12,000 diapers to support families served by the Keaton's Child Cancer Alliance. The effort began when Jessica Alonso, Keaton's Child Cancer Alliance executive director, reached out to the Kiwanis Club of Roseville seeking help with a diaper shortage. Club member Michelle McLean, whose husband Brian serves at Lt. Governor of Division 44, took the challenge to the next level by rallying the entire Division. "What started as a small request grew into an incredible outpouring of generosity," said McLean. The alliance serves hundreds of families whose children are facing pediatric cancer. As Alicia Shrum, marketing director for the alliance, said in a news advisory, "This donation of diapers helps ease the burden, allowing families to focus on what matters most – caring for their child." At the delivery last Friday, just over 100 boxes filling several trucks were unloaded at Keaton's Child Cancer Alliance Family Wellness Center at 2150 Douglas Boulevard in Roseville. During the delivery, it was noted that diapers and other essentials can become overwhelming costs when income is reduced due to the high costs of medical care for cancer treatment. These critical supplies will be distributed to families currently navigating the emotional and financial challenges of a childhood cancer diagnosis.
