Lincoln Airport breaks ground for new hangars

City elected and administrative officials joined local developer Ed Soo-Barr, design and construction production executives, local pilots and even the Federal Aviation Agency to turn the first dirt on Lincoln Airport's exciting next phase of development. The groundbreaking event Wednesday hailed the first new construction at the airport in more than 20 years. Over the next six months, the hangar stock will increase by 48 individual hangars and 16 larger, multi-aircraft hangars. Mayor Holly Andreatta said, "For too many years, our gem sat unattended and, in some cases, taken advantage of. … Ed (Soo-Barr) saw the need for more hangars, and he put his money where his heart is. This hangar build will be transformational for the Lincoln Regional Airport." City officials added that more hangars mean more aircraft, which brings more revenue from fuel sales and airport services, which means a more vibrant, financially stable airport. Lincoln Regional Airport serves the entire south Placer County region. The airport will host its annual Wings & Wheels aviation-auto event Friday evening and Saturday, Aug. 22-23, with a hot-air balloon "moon glow" Friday night and more than 60 general aviation and government aircraft and 200-plus classic/sports/exotic cars on Saturday (see the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce website for details).
