Tight end duo hopes to spark Del Oro offense

Del Oro's offense will have potential for explosive plays this fall, and much of it will run through two towering targets in the middle of the field. Senior Luke Galer and junior Landen Parry give the Golden Eagles a dynamic tight end duo, combining size, sure hands and the ability to punish defenders after the catch. Whether they're sealing the edge in the run game or stretching the field in the passing attack, Galer and Parry bring a versatile punch that could be a difference-maker in Del Oro's push to change its fortunes after a 2-8 campaign last year. "They are going to be tough weapons because they're able to do so much. We can hand them the ball, we can throw them the ball. We can screen it to them," said Del Oro coach Josh Parry. "They can run up past defenders; they're both just so dynamic." Parry says while their athleticism is unmatched, what makes it work is they are cerebral players who have chemistry and push each other each day. "They're smart. They love each other. They care about each other," said Parry. "They're helping each other out, making each other better and practicing it against each other. It's everything you want in a position group. You want the competition, but you want them to care and love each other. That doesn't happen everywhere." Galer, who committed to Washington State in the offseason, was third on the team with 309 yards receiving last season while Parry led the team with 30 receptions. Both players have an imposing stature, with Galer 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, and Parry 6-2, 240. Having two dynamic weapons is also a confidence booster for quarterback Nolan Sauve, who hopes to break out in his senior season. "Having them makes my job a lot easier," said Sauve. Landen Parry says he believes he and Galer can be the two best tight ends in the Sac-Joaquin Section and his goal is to be the best player on the field whenever he straps up his helmet. "We just bring physicality when we step on the field," he said. "We want to be the two best on the field and that's what we go by. We put our head down in the dirt and just go to work. That's what we do every game."
