QB1: UC Davis names Del Oro grad Pinnick as starter

Del Oro High School alum Caden Pinnick was named the starting quarterback for UC Davis, according to CBS13's Jake Gadon. Pinnick, a redshirt freshman, saw limited action last year and had a strong spring camp. Pinnick was a three-sport standout at Del Oro. In two years as Del Oro's starter, he passed for more than 4,600 yards and 52 touchdowns while throwing just 13 interceptions. He added 489 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground in his senior year, helping lead the Golden Eagles to back-to-back Sac-Joaquin Section semifinal appearances. Pinnick earned several accolades at Del Oro, including Sierra Foothill League Offensive MVP and being named the Auburn Journal Boys Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 school year. Pinnick was also an all-league player in basketball, helping lead the Golden Eagles to the Sac-Joaquin Section championship game and CIF NorCal semifinals in 2024. Pinnick and the Aggies open the season ranked No. 7 in the FCS Coaches Poll and will face No. 11 Mercer this Saturday in the FCS Kickoff Classic in Montgomery, Alabama. The Aggies' home opener is Sept. 20 against Southern Utah.
