Memorial for beloved Auburn man; wear racing shirts, bring a broom

A memorial celebration will take place in the Earl Crabbe Gym on the Placer High campus from 1 p.m. until 3 or 3:30 Sunday, Aug. 24. Wall was a Special Olympics athlete. Donations may be made to the Special Olympics of Northern California in lieu of flowers. People are invited to Pistol Pete's afterward for socialization. Attendees are encouraged to wear racing shirts and bring a broom, in honor of Wall's joys. The Town of Loomis invited South Placer Fire Department to present residents with information on how to create defensible space and improve home-hardening measures at its regularly scheduled Loomis Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Train Depot, 5775 Horseshoe Bar Road. The agenda will be posted Aug. 20. Cybersecurity coach to speak Alex East, cybersecurity coach, expert and author, will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of Auburn Gold Country Rotary on Thursday, Aug. 28, at Awful Annie's, located at 13460 Lincoln Way. Auburn Gold Country Rotary meets every Thursday at noon. East will discuss cybersecurity and ways for individuals to protect themselves. East's recent book on cybersecurity will be available for sale. This should be an entertaining and informative presentation. All are welcome. Feeding the Foothills to hold fundraising luncheon September is National Hunger Action Month and as longtime volunteers of Feeding the Foothills (formerly the Placer Food Bank), the Lincoln Democratic Club is taking action by hosting a fundraising luncheon on Sept. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Feeding the Foothills facility in Roseville. All proceeds from the luncheon will be donated to the food bank to serve the community. In one recent year, Feeding the Foothills served more than 1.1 million individuals in Placer, El Dorado and Nevada counties. It distributes food to 80-plus hunger relief organizations in the three-county area, where its PantrytoGo program has free drive-through locations in 10 communities. Feed the Foothills receives support from Feeding America and many area businesses and organizations but always needs more support to meet its needs.
