Roseville has good scrimmage as it prepares for Antelope

A week before its first game, Roseville's varsity football team prepared by hosting a scrimmage against three teams: Wheatland, Casa Roble and Bella Vista. All went well, according to Roseville head coach Adam Reinking, though there were obviously some things the team needs to clean up before their opening game on Friday. "It went well," Reinking said. "Our defense played well. We had one blown coverage against Casa Roble that allowed them to score. We did a pretty good job of defending the pass. I'm happy with how they played. "Offensively, we were able to run the ball against Casa Roble and Bella Vista. I thought D'Marcis (Gresham) played well. Colton (Wolfe) and Cole Takahashi played well and the offense as a whole did a pretty good job. "We weren't at our best throwing the ball, but it's our first time not playing against ourselves. We weren't as sharp as we'd like to be on the perimeter, but that's why we scrimmage." Reinking said that Mateo Martinez played well at linebacker, and JJ Yong made a nice play at receiver. "I think Mateo will be special this year," Reinking said. "He did a good job at outside linebacker. Cole Takahashi had some nice runs against Bella Vista and scored a couple of touchdowns. JJ had a nice 40-yard touchdown catch. D'Marcis gained 50 or 60 yards on four or five carries. I thought the offensive line did a nice job and that Jude Navarro and Colton Wolfe did a nice job at tight end." Roseville opens the season Friday night at home against Antelope. "Antelope's got some athletes and some big 'ol boys and will be better coached this year," Reinking said. "We will have to do a good job executing our game plan. Our offensive and defensive lines will have to play well against a big and fast, athletic team."
