Lincoln High student slaps staff member, then gets body slammed by school resource officer

Editor's note: This story was updated at 4:52 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, to note the juvenile's arrest and booking into Placer County Juvenile Hall. An incident occurred between a student and a staff member during a freshman class meeting at Lincoln High School on Tuesday, requiring a School Resource Officer to intervene. In a viral clip on social media, the student can be seen upset at the staff member. The teacher puts a hand on the student's arm moments before the student slaps the adult staffer in the face. Kids yell out, "Yoooo, he slapped a teacher," as an additional staff member tries to escort the student out of the gym. The student continues to be physical and pushes one staff member in the back near the gym doors. Suddenly, a school resource officer appears, picks up the student and slams him into the floor as students from the bleachers cheer. The video has been picked up by national outlets including TMZ and the New York Post. The Western Placer Unified School District said in a statement the student will face disciplinary action and that the matter is being addressed by law enforcement. "While the incident was witnessed by a number of students, it was resolved promptly without further disruption to the school day," the statement said. "The safety and well-being of students and staff remain the highest priority for Lincoln High School and the Western Placer Unified School District. The behavior displayed in this incident does not reflect the values of respect, responsibility, and kindness that the District upholds, and actions of this nature are not acceptable at any school. We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive learning environment and will continue working in partnership with our community to reinforce these expectations." Lincoln Police Chief Matt Alves said the situation was unfortunate. "The situation the student created is unfortunate. The student's behavior required immediate intervention by our School Resource Officer to prevent further injury to school staff," he explained. "I am grateful for our partnership with the Western Placer Unified School District in having School Resource Officers at our schools to keep our students and school staff members safe." The juvenile was arrested and booked into Placer County Juvenile Hall, and charges were being filed, according to Erin Frye, public information officer for the city of Lincoln.
