Auburn Interfaith Food Closet promotes September as 'Hunger Action Month'

September is Hunger Action Month, a time when people across the country will be taking a stand against hunger. Hunger Action Month was established by Feeding America in 2008, when it decided it was time for a nationwide push to get people involved with the hunger crisis across the country. During September, people everywhere help feed the needy in their neighborhoods, working to ensure the 49 million people who live with food insecurity every day can get some relief. How you can help us serve our hungry neighbors 1. Participate in the food drive • Bring a bag of non-perishable food to the Food Closet any day during the month of September: 1788 Auburn Ravine Road, Auburn, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. • Types of food most needed (in original packaging, unexpired, no glass jars): boxed cereal, assorted canned fruits, vegetables, tuna/chicken, pasta/pasta sauce, meal in a can; mac & cheese 2. Participate in a neighborhood food drive • Lead a neighborhood food drive by dropping off empty grocery bags on Sept. 13, posting neighborhood signs Sept. 17 or 18 and picking up filled bags on Sept. 20. Participate in the virtual food drive • During September, visit www.auburnfoodcloset.org and click on the "Virtual Food Drive" button to donate. Your donation will help the Food Closet purchase perishable foods like dairy, meat, eggs, fruit, vegetables and other goods that may be in short supply. 4. Donate produce from your garden • Deliver homegrown produce from your garden or orchard to the Food Closet. All produce must be signed in (required by Placer County Environmental Health]. • Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, 4-7 p.m.; and the last Saturday of the month, 10 a.m. to 2 .p.m. 5.
