Del Oro soars past Downey

Del Oro left Modesto with a statement win Friday night, rolling past Downey 39-14 in an offensive showcase. Senior quarterback Nolan Sauve completed 13 of 17 passes for 187 yards and four touchdowns in the lopsided season-opening victory. Sauve's efficiency kept the Golden Eagles in control from the start, as they took an early 14-0 lead. Sauve spread out the attack, throwing touchdowns to three different players and finding six receivers. Landen Parry had four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown while Washington State commit Luke Galer snagged three passes for 36 yards and two touchdowns. Brennan Gibbs had a 54-yard touchdown reception. Senior running back Brock Sherman had 104 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Del Oro's defense also made its mark with Gibbs and sophomore Chase Carmazzi each making interceptions. The Golden Eagles held Downey to 72 yards rushing on 19 carries. Del Oro has a bye week this week and faces Placer in Auburn on Sept. 5.
