Wildlife rescue seeks leaf donations for growing fawn population

More than 30 orphaned fawns at Sierra Wildlife Rescue (777 Pleasant Valley, Diamond Springs) are counting on local residents to help fill their daily salad bowls. The rescue organization needs fresh leaf donations through October to feed the growing deer, which consume large quantities of vegetation daily as they prepare for release back into the wild. "These growing vegetarians rely on community donations to stay healthy," said rescue officials. The fawns prefer leaves from grapevines, most fruit trees except citrus, and soft oak varieties. Volunteers will handle cutting and delivery for residents who have suitable trees but need assistance. Those who prefer to harvest and deliver leaves themselves can sign up for specific dates through the organization's online scheduling system. The rescue provides a complete list of acceptable leaf types to donors. Officials emphasize that every donation, regardless of size, helps sustain the animals during this critical growth period.
