Roseville police log: Scams, online theft, suspected overdose

Editor's note: Arrest reports are released by the Roseville Police Department. Aug. 12 At 10:32 a.m. on Roundhouse Loop and Benchmark Drive, a worker arrived at a construction site at 2 a.m. and observed an unknown vehicle. Copper services had been removed, causing an estimated $5,000 to $20,000 in damage. The victim also reported that the previous day, Aug. 11, copper piping was stolen from the site, damaging water lines. At 12:02 p.m. on Anderson Court, the victim reported receiving a phone call while working from home. A female caller, who sounded like his wife, claimed she had been in a car accident but was not injured. A male caller then stated he was with a cartel and threatened to harm the victim's wife unless he paid $2,000. The victim withdrew the money from his bank account but was then instructed to complete a wire transfer at a jewelry store. After the transaction, the caller claimed his wife would be released. When the victim called his wife, she confirmed she was still at work and had not been in an accident. He then realized it was a scam. At 1:19 p.m. on Vittorio Drive, Roseville Police and Fire responded to a report of a 30-year-old male who was unconscious and not breathing from a suspected overdose. CPR and naloxone were administered before their arrival. The male was found upstairs in a bathroom with a used Narcan on the counter. He gave only his first name, denied drug use and refused medical treatment. EMS and police cleared the scene after he declined care. Aug. 13 At 10:45 a.m. on Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard, the victim reported that on Aug. 1 at 11:51 a.m., she withdrew $300 from an ATM. While in her car afterward, a woman approached her claiming she had dropped $20. As the victim checked her wallet, her debit card was taken. Within minutes, $2,500 was withdrawn from her checking account and $3,500 from her savings. At 12:04 p.m. on Via Riata, the victim received emails from PayPal and Wells Fargo regarding suspicious charges on Aug. 6. She froze her accounts but later discovered her email and social media had also been compromised. Suspects used her accounts to send threats, post fraudulent tractor-sale advertisements and send spam messages. Approximately $3,000 was stolen, and a relative was defrauded of $500 through impersonation. Some funds were recovered.
