Rhinos rally from early deficit against Reed

The Twelve Bridges High School football team was in uncharted territory last Friday night after falling into an early 14-0 hole against Reno-Reed in Lincoln. The Raging Rhinos trailed for the majority of the first half but took the lead in the final minute of the second quarter. Twelve Bridges rode the momentum from the late touchdown in the second half, pulling away for a 45-31 victory to improve to 2-0 and push its regular-season winning streak to 22. Senior running back Matthew Marquez set the tone with 128 yards on 18 carries, while junior Josh Chittom added 70 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Chase Wyhlidko showcased his hard-nosed running ability with 80 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and Bradley Kirby had a nose for the goal line with two scoring plunges. Twelve Bridges quarterback Connor Frontiera balanced the attack, completing 18 of 26 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown strike to senior Will Gant, who climbed the ladder to make a one-handed snag in the back of the end zone. Gant had a team-high 78 yards on three receptions. Reed's offense moved the ball effectively behind senior quarterback Daxon Dayton, who threw for 267 yards and a touchdown. Senior running back Bronwyn Rios carried the load with 102 yards rushing and two touchdowns plus a scoring catch. Defensively, Twelve Bridges made timely plays to keep Reed in check. Kirby made an impact with an interception and 34-yard return. Davin Markle disrupted the Raiders with nine tackles and two tackles for loss. Colton Hogge added two tackles for loss. The Rhinos hurried the quarterback with eight pressures, and Cordae Johnson had the lone sack. The Rhinos will will visit Whitney (1-1) on Sept. 5. The Wildcats lost to Woodcreek last week.
