Auburn Symphony begins 38th season with Symphony & Art in the Park

Music, art and community. It is an Auburn trifecta, and a joy to experience. And it's all coming together again soon in an open-air celebration marking the launch of the Auburn Symphony's 38th season with Symphony and Art in the Park. "I'm really excited about Symphony and Art in the Park," said Auburn Symphony Conductor Ryan Murray. "It's such a fun way to kick off the Auburn Symphony's season and celebrate with our Auburn community. We have a lot of great selections this year, even some music from Looney Tunes!" The selections include: · "Theme from Jurassic Park" by John Williams · "Cinema Paradiso" by Ennio Morricon · "Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa · "Gershwin by George" by George Gershwin · "Slavonic Dances" by Antonin Dvorak · "Intermezzo" from Giacomo Puccini's opera "Manon Lescaut" · "What's up at the Symphony" by Jerry Brubaker (Think Bugs Bunny) · "Salute" by Cole Porter · "Medley for Orchestra" by Duke Ellington The evening begins at 5 p.m. with River Sisters in Harmony with a drum circle at the Stan Padilla stone sculpture. Also opening at 5 p.m. are wonderful art exhibits where you may chat with the artists. The only thing that might lure you away is the scent of pizza wafting through the air from the Old Town Pizza booth, offering slices and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase. Also, the Auburn Arts Commission will provide a refreshing and complimentary snow cone station – a favorite every year. Through a partnership with BriarPatch Auburn, you may also order ahead for an exclusive Auburn Symphony picnic box made in their deli with organic ingredients. So bring your low-back chairs, blankets and a picnic and settle in early on the lawn or the hillside. From there, you can enjoy a stroll to the drum circle, exhibits and booths. By 6 o'clock, the Placer County Youth Orchestra will showcase its expanding musical talents. Taking the stage at 7 p.m. will be the Auburn Symphony. "This is a great chance to hear your amazing Auburn Symphony in a relaxed and casual environment in a concert that is just under one hour long," Murray said. "It's sure to be a fun night of great music." At the end of the evening, the Volunteer Village "Flashlight Brigade" will light your way on the stairs and bridges as you exit. And new this year is a bike valet service by the Auburn Trails Alliance. This event is a partnership between the Auburn Symphony, Placer Artists Tour and the Auburn Arts Commission to bring the community an outdoor visual and performing arts event.
