Impactful Folsom Police Officer is honored during retirement ceremony

A longtime, accomplished member of the Folsom Police Department was given a traditional, honorable send-off as he retires after a more than three decade long career in public service. As his peers from the Folsom Police Department saluted him, Officer Daren Prociw descended down the front steps of the Folsom Police Department, during what is known as a "retirement gauntlet". Members of the Folsom Fire Department were also on hand for the celebration, as was Mayor Sarah Aquino and other community dignitaries, family and friends. Prociw met Interim Police Chief Randy Ulibarri at the bottom of the steps, where a radio dispatch detailed Prociw's extensive career of service. "Officer Prociw began as a Sacramento County Sheriff Explorer Cadet in 1989, then joined the Folsom Police Department as an Explorer, then Reserve Officer, and in 1999, as a full-time Police Officer," said the radio announcement. "Officer Prociw has served as a Field Training Officer, Mounted Patrol Officer, EVOC Instructor, Crisis Intervention Team Officer, and an original member of the Honor Guard. His dedication earned numerous awards, including the Bronze Star, Community Policing and Service Awards, Unit Citation Award, Reserve Officer of the Year and recognition for his leadership of the Santa Sleigh project, which he guided for over 20 years." "Beyond his daily service, Officer Prociw gave back as a leader in the Police Officers' Association, serving as President, Vice President, and board member. Officer Prociw's career is one of commitment, compassion, and community. We thank him for his years of dedication and service to the City of Folsom.Thank you, Officer Prociw." Once the brief ceremony was completed, the crowd of onlookers erupted in applause, and Prociw made his way back up the stairs, receiving congratulatory hugs and receiving many thanks for the long-standing impact he had on the community.
