Vista cross country team runs well at distance festival

Vista del Lago's cross country competed in the Whitney Soiree Distance Festival in Rocklin on Saturday. The varsity girls' team placed fifth out of 15 teams, as senior Brenna Mannion led the way by running second overall and finishing the 3,000 meter race in 10 minutes, 43.3 seconds. Stella Xiao ran second for the Eagles, as she posted a time of 11:27.7 and finished 23rd. Also scoring for the Eagles were Aubree Benoit (41st, 12:05), a freshman running her first race for the Eagles, Daniela Liang (46th, 12:08.8) and Julia Swagerty (53rd, 12:26.3). Swagerty took more than two minutes off her time from the same race last season. The Vista varsity boys' team placed sixth overall out of 20 teams, as Theodore Beavers placed 14th in 9:35 and Rocco Jerwers finished 21st in 9:50.2. Jack Armstrong, who won his heat race and placed 29th overall, posted a time of 9:57.9. Also scoring for the Eagles were Justin Debra (44th, 10:15.7) and Reid Blake (49th, 10:21.5). Also, Aidan Harrington had a good run by placing fifth in his heat race with a time of 10:49.9. The Eagles next race is Saturday at the Kim Duyst Invitational.
