Kiley cherry-picks facts to support narrative

Representative Kevin Kiley (CA-03) engages again in the suppression of information on his website ("Kiley takes a bow or 2009 funding," Auburn Journal, July 23). Under the "Government Accountability Updates" on his kiley.house.gov website, Rep. Kiley cherry-picks facts, presumably because it is advantageous for him when there are inconvenient truths that do not align with his storyline. Kiley's latest updates are related to Texas' recent gerrymandering, which is predicted to provide five more seats for House Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections. Kiley's website article headlines read, "Rep. Kevin Kiley Responds to California Supermajority Legislature Calling Special Election to Gerrymander State" and "Rep. Kiley Calls on House Leadership to Vote on Redistricting Bill." These articles make no mention of the unethical actions taken by the Texas Republican Majority. Furthermore, Kiley also fails to reference President Trump's intervention in Texas politics and Trump having been the impetus for the Texas Republican power grab, using gerrymandering as their tool. Kiley does not present the facts behind California's Proposition 50, The Election Rigging Response Act, which authorizes temporary changes to congressional district maps in response to Texas' partisan redistricting. The special election will give the voters of California the opportunity to have a say in the California Legislature's decision to fight back against Texas' mid-decade gerrymandering. Kiley says, "A nationwide redistricting war is not what our country needs," and, "Newsom's scheme is an unprecedented assault on democracy and good government in our state." While Rep. Kiley broadly criticizes the California Legislature, he refrains from making any such critical statements in response to Trump's election interference or Texas' mid-decade redistricting to gain five seats for Republicans. It is just a wow moment. And it is galling that he has the hubris to believe his constituents cannot parse out the truth and recognize his hypocrisy and obvious suppression of information. Kiley touts his "good deeds," but it is apparent he sees the full truth as expendable when the goal is to retain power and convince his constituents he works for them. Fortunately, the voters can easily see the hypocrisy by arming themselves with the facts behind the origin of the Proposition 50 special election on Nov. 4. Emily Gaber Auburn At present, Kiley is 'cowardly' I just wrote my Congressman Kevin Kiley and called him a coward. After listening to the testimony of the women who were abused by Jeffrey Epstein and others when they were mere girls, Kiley voted "present" when voting to release the Epstein files. He failed to join other Republicans who voted "yes." Why? Does he agree with the president who said the Epstein issue is a hoax? I want a congressman who is decisive and not wishy-washy.
