Roseville golf team playing well; tougher matches ahead

Roseville High's girls' golf team is off to a good start this season and has a promising future if the players continue to develop, lower their scores and play well. The Tigers have had four league matches and won all four against Yuba City, Placer, River Valley and defeated Del Campo in their most recent match on Tuesday, 256-362. The team's low score this season was a 234, which they shot in a 234-300 win over Placer at Black Oak Golf Course on Sept. 2. The team has been led by Jasmine Hale, a returning All-League player and team captain and four-year varsity player who is the team's No.1 player and who's been the medalist in three of the team's four matches. Hale's low round came at Black Oak where she finished her round of nine holes in 42 strokes. In the team's most recent match against Del Campo played at Sierra View, Kendal Chapin led the way with a 46. "Our team has a lot of potential and each player has shown great things this year so it will come down to being more consistent on a regular basis and playing well against the better teams which we have Thursday (Nevada Union) and Tuesday against Twelve Bridges," Roseville coach Corey Fukuman said. "Both matches are at Sierra View." In Roseville's win over Yuba City on Aug. 28, team scores included Hale, 47, followed by Chapin, 51, Hannah LaBlue, and Sophia Urtz, 55. In the win over Placer on Sept. 2, Hale shot a 42 and was followed by Chapin's 45, LaBlue's 48 as well as a 49 by Gianna Van Zandt. On Sept. 4 the Tigers shot at 256 at River Oaks, while playing River Valley. Hale had the low round of 44, followed by LaBlue, 50, Sophia Urtz, 53 and Chloe Urtz, 54. Finally, in Tuesday's win over Del Campo, Chapin shot a 46 and she was followed by Van Zandt and Hale, who shot 48s, and Sophia Urtz, who finished her round in 55 strokes. "Overall, I'm very pleased with the way we have been playing so far, but I know we can get better, so I'm excited to see how we do in the next few weeks with our first Foothill Valley League 18-hole tournament on Sept. 22 at River Oaks," Fukuman said.
