Folsom Police women honored for National Police Woman Day

The many police women in Folsom are being honored for their dedication and service on this annual National Police Woman Day. This day of recognition falls on Sept. 12 every year to celebrate women in law enforcement, and has been a yearly event since 1910, the year Alice Stebbins Wells became the first female police officer in Los Angeles. Women have played an integral part of the Folsom Police Department for nearly 50 years; the city's first woman police officer began her groundbreaking job in January 1976 and paved the way for many others to follow in her footsteps. Of course, The Folsom Telegraph published a story on this legendary woman, Molly May Larkin, whose new role with the department was big news in town. Larkin became an officer after spending 13 years as a dispatcher. In the story, Larkin told The Folsom Telegraph the community greeted her with open arms. "While I'm on duty, people are sort of shocked to see a woman police officer driving a patrol car, but everyone I have encountered so far has given me a lot of respect," said Molly. The article also quoted Molly as saying she felt there were many service calls where it was helpful to be a female, especially in cases dealing with young girls or women. This sentiment rings true today; in a statement, the Folsom Police Department acknowledged the important, unique role women play in their organization. "The Folsom Police Department proudly recognizes and thanks the women who serve in our organization. Their dedication, professionalism and courage represent the best of our profession. "These women not only serve the community with distinction, but they also bring invaluable perspective, leadership and compassion to our department. They embody our core values of professionalism, integrity, justice, esprit de corps, accountability, courage, compassion and safety, strengthening our team and fostering positive relationships with the community we serve." Bishop serves as a patrol officer and has been with the department since late 2024. * Officer W. Davis serves as a patrol officer and has been with the department since 2016. * Officer M. Fancey serves as a patrol officer and has been with the department since 2023. * Officer K. Lim serves as a patrol officer and has been with the department since 2005. * Police Officer Recruit H. Ljubi started with the department as a Community Services Officer in 2023. * Lieutenant J. Marendt, assigned to patrol, has been with the department since 2004. * Officer D. McAuliff serves as a School Resource Officer, has been with the department since 2023. * Officer N. Ramos serves as a patrol officer, with the department since 2023. * Officer M. Sanner serves as a patrol officer, with the department since late 2024. * Officer M. Sears serves as a School Resource Officer and created the therapy dog program with her partner Liberty the police corgi; with the department since 2020. * Officer B.
