Sutter Roseville Medical Center unveils key expansion

Sutter Roseville Medical Center celebrated the official opening of its highly anticipated $27.7 million expansion project meant to enable the hospital to serve more patients in the Placer and Sacramento county regions. The expansion includes 24 new medical/surgical beds and 12 intensive care unit beds and consists of two projects: construction in former shelled space of 12 additional ICU beds, bringing the total number of ICU beds to 72, and the conversion of office space into 24 new medical/surgical patient rooms, all with telemetry capabilities. Both projects were completed this summer. "This expansion strengthens our ability to serve a rapidly growing community," said Rachael McKinney, president of Sutter Health's Greater Sacramento Division. "By adding both ICU and medical/surgical beds, we can ensure patients and families have timely access to the right level of care, close to home." The new ICU beds are located on the third floor of the Emergency Department expansion that opened in 2020. The medical/surgical rooms are on the second floor of the Sutter Rehabilitation Institute, which is connected to the main hospital. Sutter Roseville hired additional staff to meet increased patient volume. The Sutter Roseville medical campus began as a community hospital 25 years ago and has evolved into a regional medical hub providing advanced, comprehensive care. With this expansion, the hospital now has 418 licensed beds, making it the third-largest hospital in the Greater Sacramento region and the largest in Placer County. "This expansion helps position Sutter Roseville for the future, ensuring we can continue delivering excellent care as our community's needs evolve," said Sutter Roseville Medical Center CEO Tammy Powers. "It stands as an investment in the long-term health and wellbeing of Roseville and South Placer County." The expansion attempts to address the rising demand for hospital care in Roseville and South Placer County. The ICU project also allows the hospital to convert 12 existing ICU rooms into specially equipped cardiac intensive care unit rooms, while the medical/surgical rooms support the increased patient volumes the hospital is experiencing. Sutter Roseville also plans to open a hybrid operating room this fall. Sutter officials said it will be a state-of-the-art facility which will be able to integrate advanced imaging technologies directly into the surgical environment.
