Twelve Bridges blanks Lincoln 27-0

The Twelve Bridges High School flag football team secured bragging rights for the year Thursday night, blanking crosstown rival Lincoln 27-0 at home to sweep the season series over the Zebras. The Rhinos were led by sophomore quarterback Lily Tetz and junior receiver Makena Wooster, who propelled them forward with their explosive connections. Tetz and Wooster opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 48-yard strike. In total, Wooster hauled in six catches for 99 yards while Tetz was 22-of-32 for 186 yards. "We have pretty good chemistry, and I think you could really see it in this game tonight. We had a lot of good passes to each other," said Wooster of her connection with Tetz. "I feel great. I feel like I can go out with every game with confidence now after tonight." Twelve Bridges coach Matt Bombard praised Wooster, saying that he has been waiting for a breakout game from her this season. "We've seen those two in practice do that time and time again and tonight, (Makena) finally put it all together. I'm super proud of her," said Bombard. "Lily puts the ball where it needs to be and even when she doesn't, Makena will go up and get it." Defensively, Twelve Bridges was just as impressive. Lexi Bright and Hailey Shoro each had pick sixes and Lilly Miller nabbed an interception as well. Yesenia Placencia had three sacks, one of which was for a safety in the second half. Bombard says that the defensive pressure starts with Placencia, noting that she is able to force quarterbacks to make decisions that can lead to turnovers. "Yesenia gives no time to the quarterback, so everything's coming out fast," said Bombard. "Our defensive backs were breaking quick and they're able to jump those routes because of our pass rush." Lincoln's defense held strong as well. The Fighting Zebras forced the Rhinos to turn it over on downs three times inside the 10-yard-line and freshman Emma Magnussion snagged two interceptions. While the turnovers didn't reflect on the scoreboard, Lincoln coach Eric Isenberg was proud of the effort from his young team. "Our defense is the bedrock of this team. They really are solid," said Isenberg. "We're young on defense and we're young on offense, and so we are looking towards the future like there's we kind of embark on this new sport. We are looking to make sure the girls are having fun and building for the future." Twelve Bridges (5-4) will begin Foothill Valley League play next week against River Valley while Lincoln (1-6) visits Center in Pioneer Valley League play on Monday.
