Auburn-area football roundup: Placer pastes Burbank; Colfax, Bear River drop PVL openers, Foresthill remains unbeaten

Placer High School's starters didn't need to break much of a sweat Friday night, as the Hillmen throttled Burbank 42-6 in their final nonleague game. The Hillmen scored 28 points in the first quarter and played with a running clock for the entire second half. Placer forced the running clock early in the second quarter on a 95-yard pick six by Evan Sharples to push the lead to 42. From there, the bench was emptied as the Hillmen cruised to the lopsided victory. Quarterback Chase Rodarte threw two touchdown passes, connecting with Keilin Beverage for 63 and 21 yards. Liam Grant threw a touchdown pass to Danny Sanchez-Harlow in the first quarter. Shaun Jones rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown and Sanchez-Harlow racked up 57 yards and a score. Placer coach Joey Montoya applauded his team's effort, noting the Hillmen only ran 26 offensive plays in the game. Defensively, junior Conner Soderman had 11 tackles while Brennan Collins and Ernesto Morales each had 1.5 tackles for loss. Jeremiah Rethi and Collins each had a sack, and Isaiah Caminiti and Joe White each had interceptions. Placer (3-2) is idle this week before beginning Foothill Valley League play against Del Campo on Oct. 3. Oakmont 34, Colfax 21: The Falcons moved the ball on offense but couldn't fend off Oakmont as they dropped their Pioneer Valley League opener at home. Colfax quarterback Adam Amatangelo completed 17 of 31 passes for 230 yards and one touchdown with one interception. The Falcons balanced the attack on the ground, rushing for 150 yards, including 114 yards and two touchdowns by Graeson Howard on 17 carries. Josiah Rubidoux had five catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Roman Mikitiuk had a strong night defensively with five tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss. Tanner Brittner had an interception and four tackles. The Falcons (1-3, 0-1 PVL) will look to bounce back this week at Marysville (3-2, 1-0 PVL). Wheatland 28, Bear River 7: The Bruins were unable to defend their home field in Friday's PVL opener, falling to defending league-champion Wheatland. Sophomore Jaeden Waters was the spark offensively, breaking free for a 57-yard touchdown run for the Bruins' lone score. The Pirates (4-1, 1-0) pulled away in the second half. Bear River (3-2, 0-1 PVL) will visit Oakmont (2-2, 1-0) on Friday. Foresthill 47, Turlock Christian 6: The Wildfires (4-0) continued their best start in school history with a lopsided win over Turlock Christian. Senior running back Vincent Navarro was unstoppable, rushing for 193 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries. Senior Izaiah Ruiz added balance to the backfield with 75 yards rushing on five carries. Quarterback Waylon Gossic kept the offense humming through the air, completing 7 of 11 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. His favorite target was Spencer Torres with three receptions for 73 yards. The Wildfires wrap up nonleague play Friday at Valley (2-2).
