Juvenile vs. vehicle on Riley St.; injury reported

A juvenile on an e-bike was hit by a car near Kohl's in the 1000 block of Riley Street on Tuesday afternoon at around 3:50 p.m. Folsom Police received the call about a collision between a car and a juvenile riding an e-bike; the juvenile suffered minor injuries and was transported for medical evaluation, according to police. The investigation into what happened is ongoing, but police said initial reports are that the rider of the e-bike was riding in the wrong direction in the bike lane. Folsom Police responded to the scene along with Folsom Fire crews and paramedics. Shortly after the first incident, a second accident involving a juvenile on a scooter happened a few blocks down the street from the first incident, also on Riley. The rider was seen on the ground with an apparent leg injury. This accident was not caused by a collision with another vehicle but simply the rider of the scooter crashing. That person was treated by medical personnel. During these two incidents, area streets were jammed with traffic, onlookers and first responders. Residents were urged to avoid the area until it was cleared. Folsom Police said in a social media post hours after the incidents these were reminders, especially to younger community members who ride e-bikes and scooters, to: * Ride in the correct direction of traffic. * Obey all traffic signals and stop signs. * Wear a helmet. * Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Police also said, "E-bikes are not toys - they are motorized vehicles and must be operated responsibly. Help us keep Folsom safe by riding smart and following the rules of the road."
