Football roundup: Zebras outpace Foothill, Rhinos fend off Destiny Christian

Lincoln High School celebrated its annual hometown heroes night with a 41-6 drubbing of Foothill High School on Sept. 19 in their final nonleague contest. Lincoln's offense clicked behind senior quarterback Eli Duff, who completed 13 of 19 passes for 169 yards and four touchdowns. He spread the ball around to his playmakers, especially to senior Aiden Trombatore, who had six catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. Mason Volzer had a strong night as well with three catches for 52 yards and two touchdowns. Bryan Redding added a touchdown with a 22-yard grab. The Zebras also got production on the ground, averaging more than seven yards per carry. Brock Galer rushed six times for 48 yards and a touchdown while Julian Defoe scored on his lone 12-yard carry. Dylan Knell ran for 44 yards on four attempts. Senior Devin Davis spearheaded the defensive effort with 14 tackles while Kody Lowe added nine. Travis Gracey notched two tackles for loss among his four stops. Foothill's lone score came on the ground from senior Derrick Spears, who rushed for 42 yards on nine carries. Junior quarterback Xavier Balderas completed 3 of 6 passes for 44 yards. Lincoln (3-1) dives into Pioneer Valley League play Friday night at defending champion Wheatland. Twelve Bridges 38, Destiny Christian 30: The Raging Rhinos were up comfortably for most of the night, but found themselves fending off a spirited comeback at Destiny Christian to improve to 5-0. Twelve Bridges found itself without several key starters, but that didn't stop the Rhinos from racking up 574 total yards. The Rhinos led 31-0, but the Lions battled back to make it a one-score game in the final two minutes. Quarterback Conner Frontiera was sharp through the air, completing 18 of 27 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. He spread the ball well with six receivers getting involved. Bradley Kirby made the biggest impact with four catches for 74 yards and two scores, while Logan Muma added three grabs for 34 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Weber had three receptions for 52 yards, and Chase Wyhlidko contributed 55 yards on four catches out of the backfield. Wyhlidko was just as dominant on the ground, powering the Rhinos' rushing attack with 210 yards on 29 carries, highlighted by a 52-yard run. Josh Chittom was also effective, finishing with 48 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. Colton Hogge was nearly unblockable with four tackles for loss and a half sack. Devon King added two tackles for loss and a sack. The Rhinos (5-0) will be idle this week before opening their Foothill Valley League slate Oct. 3 at Nevada Union.
