Trojans sets all kinds of personal records at Woodbridge Classic

The Oak Ridge varsity cross country athletes raced tremendously at the Woodbridge Classic Invitational at Great Park in Irvine on Sept. 20, the largest cross country invitational in the nation. Competing in the most competitive race and division during the two-day invitational, the sweepstakes race, the Trojans put forth a great effort to place 22nd out of 37 teams, while the varsity boys placed 23rd out of 37 teams. "The atmosphere was electric," Oak Ridge coach Rob Fairley said. "Spectators were scatters throughout Great Park watching the nation's top cross country teams race on a fast, 3-mile course." Oak Ridge's girls' team was led by Adriana Ingargiola and Giuliana Martino. Ingargiola placed 79th with a time of 17:23.3, while Martino ran 94th in 17:34.7. "Adriana and Giuliana broke the previous 3-mile cross country school record of 17:38.5 set by Ava Maier in 2021. Adriana and Giuliana received a Woodbridge Classic medal for placing in the top-100. All seven girls on the team set personal records for three miles." Other Oak Ridge runners included Maya Day (18:04.9), Emi Madsen (18:13.0), Addie Yip (18:20.5), Sutton Paulsen (18:21.7) and Cameron Fechter (18:58.1). Leading the boys' team were seniors Roman Zamora and Thomas Capelli. Zamora finished 69th in a time of 14:45.6, while Capelli ran 91st in 14:54.9. "The top-five finishers, Roman, Thomas, Dax Whann, Wesley Ewing and Ben Gutierrez broke the previous 3-mile cross country record of 15:16.1 set by Carson Karr in 2023. Congratulations to Roman Zamora for being the new 3-mile school record holder. Roman and Thomas received a Woodbridge Classic medal for placing in the top-100. All seven boys on the team set personal records for 3 miles." The last five Oak Ridge runners were Whann (15:12.7), Ewing (15:13.1), Gutierrez (15:16.0), Oscar Carrillo (15:31.7) and Bailey Van Leemput (16:00.3). The next meet for the Oak Ridge cross country teams is the Goldmine Invitational at Railhead Park on Saturday, September 27.
