Bear River sweeps past Colfax

Bear River High School maintained its position securely at the top of the Pioneer Valley League volleyball standings Tuesday night, sweeping rival Colfax in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-12 in Lake of the Pines. The Bruins were firing on all cylinders offensively. Gabby Sams, Eden Cha and Grace McKeown spearheaded the effort, combining for 28 kills with Sams putting together an especially impressive performance with 10 kills on 11 swings. Cha and McKeown each had nine kills, keeping Colfax on their heels the entire match. Bear River's serving game put on extra pressure with Cha totaling seven aces. Sams and Halle Hayden each tallied three aces. The Bruins were aggressive at the net on defense with Bella Stafford posting a team-high four blocks. In the back row, Brooke Milligan had 29 assists while Shelby Jeffers had five. Colfax never seemed to find a rhythm, struggling to respond to Bear River's fast-paced attack and disciplined defense. Bear River won a close first set, and after that, the match was all Bruins. Bear River went on to sweep Marysville 3-0 on Thursday night to improve to 22-4 overall and 6-0 in the PVL. McKeown led the Bruins with 14 kills. Tuesday's loss was the first in PVL play for the Falcons (12-5, 4-1).
