Colfax girls golf wins first PVL tournament

Colfax High School's girls golf team continued its strong season this week by pulling out a narrow victory in the first Pioneer Valley League tournament at Peach Tree Country Club in Marysville. The Falcons shot a team score of 545, edging second-place Bear River by six strokes. Colfax trailed by five after the first three golfers finished, but the team's depth proved to be the difference as seniors Ava Bourd and Kenzie Schroeder came in with steady rounds that swung the tournament in the Falcons' favor. Despite dropping two close dual matches to Bear River earlier in the season, the tournament victory puts the Falcons in position to claim the league title and a win at the next PVL tournament would put them in line to claim at least a share of the championship. Coach Mai-Ly Ramirez said the team relies on a collective effort rather than a single standout. "This team is doing really well," Ramirez said. "We have five seniors and one junior that have been playing since they were freshmen, and I just think with their experience as a team, they're coming together and playing strong." Ramirez also praised the team's growth, noting many players are putting in work outside of scheduled practices to sharpen their games. That dedication has carried over onto the course, where Colfax has consistently matched up well against league opponents. As the season enters its second half, the Falcons are focused on fine-tuning their short game and building consistency under pressure. Ramirez says if they continue to perform as a unit, Colfax has a strong chance to secure the league championship and carry that momentum into the postseason.
