Eagles cruise to 50-22 win over Falcons

After four consecutive losses, Vista del Lago's varsity football team got a much-needed win on Friday night, defeating Christian Brothers, 50-22. The Eagles worked up a 29-0 lead at halftime on their way to the big win. Quarterback Christian Chavez had a big game, as he completed 15-of-23 passes for 320 yards and five touchdowns against only one interception. "The guys were pretty excited after this one," Vista coach Mike Struebing said. "I told them that we are now a team. The guys really bought into playing for one another. The guys have worked hard the last few weeks to play for the guys next to them, so they had a lot to celebrate. "I like the way we channeled our emotion. We played with emotion, but we didn't play emotionally, if that makes sense. It gave us another level of play to be able to channel our emotions in a certain way. We had to fight through some adversity when our offense didn't score, but our defense kept getting stops. It was also nice to put some points on the board." Chavez threw two touchdown passes to Cael Rens, who caught six passes for 71 yards. Also catching touchdowns were Luke Roberts, Jack Cromwell and Kyle Cromwell, whose touchdown came on a 95-yard screen pass. Chavez averaged 21 yards per completion, while he passed for 320 yards on 15 completions. On the ground, Jack Cromwell gained 99 yards and also had a pair of touchdowns. The Eagles also earned a safety on an intentional grounding call on Christian Brother's quarterback. Kingston Foster-Davis was credited with the safety. Good news for the Eagles this week, as Jacoby More is healthy again and should see time at quarterback in the team's game at home against Inderkum. "We're excited to have Jacoby back and we're happy for him," Struebing said. "He was cleared to play last week, but had no practice time so we didn't get him in, but he will play next week. We're going to have to manage the rotations of our quarterbacks but we'll sort that out next week." Meanwhile, the team must prepare for a very tough opponent in Inderkum, one of two undefeated teams in league along with Woodcreek.
