Bear River clips Oakmont; Colfax comes up short

Oakmont High School was in the red zone with just under four minutes to play Friday night, but Bear River's defense made a big stop to slam the door and hung on for its first Pioneer Valley League victory, 22-15. The Bruins held a 15-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but after turning it over on downs and a clutch scoring drive from Oakmont quarterback Elijah Stevens, Bear River found itself in a tight game down the stretch. Sean Kinney led the Bruins with 134 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries while Jaeden Waters added 66 yards and a touchdown on 12 rushes. The Bruins (4-2, 1-1 PVL) will be on the road this week to face Lincoln (4-1, 1-0 PVL) in a clash with league championship implications. Bear River coach Jeremy Kerr said the team is locked in and set the tone Monday with a good practice, noting the Bruins just need to eliminate their mistakes. Marysville 29, Colfax 25: The Falcons were on the road Friday night looking to spoil Marysville's homecoming and secure a third consecutive victory over the Indians. Despite a breakout performance from junior receiver Brady Stowers, Colfax came up short in a 29–25 PVL loss. Stowers was nearly unstoppable on the outside, catching nine passes for 194 yards and rushing for 16 yards. Sophomore quarterback Adam Amatangelo delivered one of his best outings of the season, completing 14 of 21 passes for 274 yards and two scores while showing poise in the pocket against steady pressure. Adam Harvey also had a touchdown catch. Running back Graeson Howard did a little of everything for the Falcons. He found the end zone twice, once on the ground and once through the air, finishing with 77 all-purpose yards. Defensively, the Falcons battled to contain Marysville's ground-heavy attack. Junior linebacker Jake Machado led the charge with 10 tackles and a sack, while Chris Ramos and Declan McNally also had sacks. Senior Dylan Swaim added nine tackles. Colfax (1-4, 0-2 PVL) will visit defending PVL-champion Wheatland this week.
